CASCO L2C Cigarette Lighter Fuse
*** NEW ITEM ***
You may not be aware that the cigarette lighter circuit during the C2 era was not fused until 1967. Which means, there is no fuse protecting the lighter circuit from a short within the lighter for 1963 though 1966. Which also means, if the lighter ever fails via an internal short circuit while energized, a portion of the wiring harness will immediately start to melt and, in turn, that could start a fire that could destroy the entire car. But there is a simple way to prevent that from happening, which is the addition of an inline fuse between the power wire for the lighter and the lighter housing. By far, the easiest fuse to use is a Casco L2C. That particular model of Casco fuse is specifically designed to be inserted between the lighter housing and its power wire.
Here’s a photo of the original lighter housing that was used on 1963-1967 Corvettes.
Notice on the right hand end there is a bullet terminal which the power wire connector attaches to. That terminal on the lighter housing unscrews from the housing, and once it is unscrewed the Casco fuse can be screwed onto the threaded male stud on the housing, and the original power wire terminal can then be threaded onto the other end of the Casco fuse. The next photo shows the housing with the original terminal unscrewed and the Casco fuse shown where it inserts
The next photo shows the reassembled lighter housing with the Casco fuse attached and the orighinal bullet cpnnector attached.
The original power wire connector can then be reconnected to the original bullet terminal. No cutting, splicing, or altering of the original wiring is necessary. Because it’s a simple addition to the under dash wiring, and because of how many items are judged and how many points are allocated for that line item during flight judging, the addition of the fuse should not result in a deduction during judging. If a judge tries to take a 1-point deduction, you should challenge him or her and have them show you the math justification for the deduction. They will not be able to justify any deduction.
The addition of a Casco inline fuse is one of the simplest safety additions you will ever do to your C2 Corvette. The only challenge is finding a Casco L2C fuse. They were discontinued decades ago. Note: There is a variety of other models or types of Casco fuses. Only the L2C fuse can be added to your C2 without cutting any wires.
After years of searching I found a few of the L2C Casco fuses, one of which is already installed on my '66. I'm selling the few remaining fuses I found. The cost for one Casco L2C fuse is $50, which includes shipping to US destinations.
